Community Spirit
Americanism
Patriotism
Volunteerism
Service
Under the auspices of the Cuba Chamber of Commerce,
and in partnership with many other community groups, we intend to
put the volunteer spirit of Cuba, NY on the map. We believe
that a sure way to draw attention to that great American tradition
would be to erect a 150 foot flagpole, flying a 30'x50' American
Flag. The project is dedicated to the spirit of volunteerism and the
volunteers who have made, and will continue to make, our local
region and country proud. The flag will be lighted at night and
will be viewable from the Rt. I-86 expressway. According to the
manufacturer, it will be one of the tallest flags in the eastern
United States, and the tallest along I-86. The plan is to erect the
flagpole in the heart of downtown Cuba with as much local help as
possible, hopefully, including your help.
The Cuba NY Chamber
of Commerce asks each family of the Town or Village to consider
making a contribution for the "United We Stand" Flagpole Project.
The project will create a permanent memorial to community service
and volunteerism. Cuba's volunteers have been a great source of
pride and accomplishment. We have benefited from our youth
organizations, service groups, firemen, veteran's organizations,
volunteers who aid the elderly, and many other unpaid heroes.
We hope that you
will consider making a contribution to this memorial. Of
course, all donations are welcome. The community of Cuba is
regaining its vigor through the efforts of concerned students,
citizens, business people, and community groups alike. This project
will provide source of pride, for
the community, that will outlast many of those making contributions.
